Mental and physical decline in older people impacts on access to appropriate nutritious and sustainable food – which is fundamental to wellbeing. This project underpins research to look towards developing integrated policies (transport, planning, community services) to drive practices and products to facilitate Food Access for older people with varying degrees of independence and cognitive decline. The objectives are: a) to conduct scoping reviews of existing literature and data sources to support a full application; b) to conduct public engagement activities to validate the research questions and inform methodological approaches; c) to establish a stakeholder group to participate in the co-development of new policies, services, products in the main project; d) to submit an application for funding to the ESRC (or the potential forthcoming RCUK cross council call on mental health) by early 2018. Disparate academic and non-academic expertise will form a multidisciplinary partnership interested in food and older people.
