N8 AgriFood launches Rapid Evidence Synthesis Training programme

A FREE residential training programme aimed at helping early career researchers translate studies into policy guidance is being launched by N8 AgriFood.

The programme has teamed up with partners at the University of Leeds to host its inaugural Rapid Evidence Synthesis Training, which will see 30 students from across the N8 universities produce policy briefs covering a range of topics within food and agriculture.

The training is being led by world leading evidence synthesis expert Dr Gav Stewart,

Plant Health Studentship scheme supported by N8 AgriFood hailed a success following third year

A summer training scheme co-funded by N8 AgriFood supported nine studentships last year with £27,000 allocated to projects addressing the UK Government’s priorities in plant health.

N8 AgriFood was one of four organisations to fund placements in the 2019 Plant Health Undergraduate Studentship programme, run by the UK Plant Sciences Federation (UKPSF); a special advisory committee of the Royal Society of Biology (RSB).

N8 AgriFood has pledged its support to the World Fair Trade Organisation’s #businessrevolution campaign after York Chair Bob Doherty co-authored a major report to launch the operation.

Professor Doherty, who is N8 AgriFood’s Chair at the University of York, along with the reports co-authors from the World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO), Traidcraft Exchange, and Cambridge University, challenges leaders gathering at Davos this week to foster business models that put people and planet first.

Regional BBC news station Look North shone the spotlight on the how food choices impact climate change, turning to N8 AgriFood Knowledge Exchange Fellow Dr Christian Reynolds for expert advice.

As part of a week of special edition features looking at how average households can reduce their impact on climate change, the Yorkshire-based news programme started the series with a focus on food on Monday evening.

It is with great sadness that N8 AgriFood shares the news of the passing of Professor Martin Mortimer, who died aged 71 on December 22, following a short illness.

Professor Mortimer was one of the driving forces in putting together the N8 AgriFood project at the University of Liverpool, and played a major role in setting up the university’s Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Food Systems, engaging in food system science to improve health and the environment.

Uniting expertise in Urban Agriculture with new cluster initiative

N8 AgriFood is this year launching it’s Cluster initiative, pulling together expertise from across its eight member universities in specific areas of agri-food to drive innovation and collaboration with industry.

The first cluster to be launched is the N8 AgriFood Urban Agriculture Cluster, lead by the programme’s Knowledge Exchance Fellow at the University of Sheffield, Dr Jacob Nickles.

The future-face of the N8 Agrifood Urban Agriculture cluster will seek to reflect the changing landscape of agricultural practices and policies in the UK.
